EAR WAX REMOVAL/ MICROSUCTION
Microsuction is a precise and gentle method of earwax removal that uses a low-pressure suction device to safely clear the ear canal. Unlike traditional methods, it doesn’t involve water, making it a cleaner and more comfortable experience.
Why Do We Have Ear Wax (Cerumen)?
Ear wax, or cerumen, is a natural substance produced by the ear to protect the ear canal. It acts as a barrier against dust, debris, and microorganisms, keeping the ear clean and reducing the risk of infections.
What is the Impact of Excessive Ear Wax?
While earwax is beneficial in small amounts, excessive build-up can lead to hearing loss, discomfort, tinnitus, and even infections. It can block the ear canal and cause a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ears.
How Do We Remove the Ear Wax?
The Tympa device is a portable, all-in-one system used by audiologists and ear care professionals for ear examinations and earwax removal. Here’s how earwax is typically removed using the Tympa device:
- Examination:
The process starts with a detailed ear examination using the built-in otoscope. The Tympa device has a high-definition camera, which allows the professional to get a clear view of the ear canal and eardrum on a screen. This helps to assess the amount and location of earwax.
- Micro-suction:
Once the wax is identified, the Tympa device is often used for micro-suction. This method uses gentle suction to remove earwax in a safe and controlled manner. The practitioner guides the suction tip into the ear canal while continuously monitoring the process on the display screen, ensuring precise removal without causing damage to the ear canal or eardrum.
- Post-removal Check:
After the wax is removed, another examination is conducted using the otoscope feature to ensure that the ear canal is clear and healthy. The high-quality images and video captured during the procedure can also be saved for documentation or future reference.
What if something concerning is found during my ear exam?
If we find anything concerning during your exam, we can consult an ENT specialist and send a detailed report to your GP for coordinated care.
HEARING TESTS
Comprehensive Hearing Tests
We offer a full range of hearing assessments to diagnose any hearing issues. Our tests are designed to evaluate your hearing health thoroughly and accurately.
Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)
This is a standard hearing test that measures your ability to hear sounds at different pitches and volumes. It helps in determining the degree and type of hearing loss.
Tympanometry
Tympanometry assesses the functioning of the middle ear by measuring eardrum movement in response to changes in air pressure. It’s crucial for identifying issues like fluid in the ear or eustachian tube dysfunction.
HOME VISITS
